Get Fighting Fit

Posted by Cllr Janice Elliott on Monday, September 17, 2012, In : Deputy Mayor - Cllr Janice Elliott
Last week I saw another amazing local club in action.  BOXFIT has been open in Bishops Stortford for just over a decade and provides opportunities for both men and women (juniors and seniors).
BOXFIT  has invited me along to a session but unlike 'Back 2 Hockey' it appears I'll be watching not participating.  I am somewhat relieved as 90mins of hockey resulted in a 'beetroot face'.  I am however intrigued as to how well I'd box...
One of the amazing edges that BOXFIT has is that it cares...

Bishop's Stortford Police, their work & their gym project...

Posted by Cllr Janice Elliott on Sunday, September 9, 2012, In : Deputy Mayor - Cllr Janice Elliott
In September 2012 I spent 10hrs with the Bishop’s Stortford Police on their late shift.  I was able to observe how the Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford intervention Teams responded to a sample of incidents throughout that shift.

During that time I experienced some nonsense and nastiness the public displayed towards our police.  The police team were outstanding at dealing with what appears to be a regular aspect of the job.  Personally, I was exceptionally well looked after and felt part...

Stortford and Women

Posted by Cllr Janice Elliott on Wednesday, September 5, 2012,
The 2012 statistics indicate that women are still reluctant to start a business but that doesn’t appear to be the case in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire.  As larger businesses close, women are opening up high-street, on-line and home-based businesses that are diverse, encouraging local shopping and are visually pleasing.

Record percentages of the working population surveyed in the GEM UK Report 2011 indicated that they were running their own company or thought that they would start...

London Olympics inspire our children

Posted by Mrs Janice Elliott on Thursday, August 9, 2012,
I'm going to be at the Closing Ceremony with my brother, Steven Johnston.  Steven was a volunteer who took part in the Opening Ceremony, being one of 300 volunteers to showcase the UK to the world at the very beginning of the show.

I've watched many hours of the Olympic Games. I really felt part of the games and screamed encouragement to TeamGB. I've observed my girls mesmerised by the Olympians and full of pride about our team.

Now I'd love to welcome an Olympian to visit schools in Bishop'...

Bishop's Stortford Police & The Community

Posted by Mrs Janice Elliott on Wednesday, May 16, 2012,

"Youth nuisance" is a specific area currently identified by our police as an area to focus on.  They have decided to tackle underage drinking and anti social behaviour in Castle Gardens on Friday evenings. They also decided to proactively patrol the park and talk to the young people, confiscate alcohol and search people where appropriate.

PCSO Stephen Siggers and others approached me for help with fund-raising for bicycles to be used in the park and around the town.  My husband and...

Funding and how children have benefited

Posted by Cllr Janice Elliott on Tuesday, May 15, 2012,
Once I had been elected as a councillor I was able to champion a project which was close to my heart - improvements to Bishops Stortford's town centre play park, and in particular, the kinds of enhancements which would make it usable by disabled children.  I mentioned this to a couple of local entrepreneurs who immediately pledged support.  From this point there was no looking back, and I had to make the plan a reality.

Although the Council was approached, and contributed very generously...

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZMVKMMB

The Town Council is inviting comments on the future of the popular Town Centre paddling pool.  A variety of options have been set out and responses are invited.  At this stage the Council has not made a decision to make any changes, but would nevertheless like comments from the public.

Please give us your views by responding to the Paddling Pool Consultation.

The consultation closes...
