Community Project - Children’s Play Counts
Through The Brazier Trust, a charity.
The project Children’s Play Counts has already enhanced the local community facilities that enable people to meet socially through pre-arrangements or by chance. This is at the under 12s play area, Sworders Field, Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, CM23 2EJ. The activity focuses on childrens’ play and is available all year round. The Community benefits as children and adults can enjoy the Community facility recently enhanced with 10 pieces of mainly inclusive play equipment. The project is 100% social and children and adults can make new friends as they share the play equipment. The facilities e.g. the newly installed see-saw enables families or groups of friends to come together to socialise as the see-saw can accommodate prams, wheelchairs, people or all ages standing or sitting. There is a mummy in a wheelchair who is a regular user of the park and it is great that she can experience the magical play moments with her children.
Access from The Causeway Road to the park isn’t ideal therefore Janice Elliott is pushing forward a new path which has had support from the Riverside and Green Spaces Task and Finish Group meeting within the Council. The path is necessary so that the inclusive park facilities can be easily accessed. Due to legal restrictions, the installation will be made by qualified people. 100% of the money will be spent on the path as there are no wages nor expenses. The path will be the icing on the cake, the final touch to a project truly supported by individuals, local businesses, the Council and grant giving bodies.
Background Information:
On 5 April 2012 Mark Prisk MP and I opened a £60k revamp to the play park on Sworders Field, Bishop's Stortford which includes 10 pieces of play equipment. This was a dream I had 11mths ago. I worked methodically and obsessively to raise the money and complete the dream. The inclusive play equipment enables all to play together. The see-saw takes wheelchairs and prams/buggies.
I said, 'in the current economic climate, facilities which cost nothing for families to use, are more necessary than ever as play is an essential aspect of growing up'. I am very grateful to local individuals, local businesses, the council, grant providers and other bodies for the finances that has helped create a truly magical park that doesn't discriminate between the have and the have nots.
